Archery Gear: An Overview

Archery Gear

The best way to have an enhanced bow hunting experience is to get your archery equipment in shape. That is why, whenever the season of archery approaches, bow hunters around the globe set their archery gear out for checking. However, you must follow some guidelines and tips to make sure that your archery gear is in top condition.

If you plan to use a compound bow for your bow hunting expedition, then you must check the bow string for any wear and tear. If such is the case, it is advisable that you replace the string before you go for the actual hunt. Also make sure that you wax it well before you go hunting. Check your compound bow's peep, kisser, nock points, and other items present on the string. This would definitely help to ensure that it won't break as you shoot an arrow.

Your compound bow might have acquired rust since the last hunting season. Always clean the rust from the steel surface of the bow and wipe it down with some gun oil. Make sure all moving parts are lubricated. Try the dry graphite lube; it works wonders for moving sights lubrication.

If, in case, you have a pendulum or any other moving parts on your equipments, make certain that you check all their operations. It is very important that you apply lube over all the pivot points so that your bow functions properly.

Also check out the adjustment of the rest of your bow. It might just need replacement. If necessary, you may even have to replace the heat shrink. If you use string silencers, examine them for replacement. Inspect the mount, if in case you use a bow quiver and make sure that it is tight. This way, it would not hum and vibrate while you shoot an arrow into the air.

It is extremely important that you check the quiver of your archery gear. Make sure that it holds the arrow shafts securely and the hooded areas of the broad heads are in good shape. If your archery gear is equipped with the slide and guide rod, take a close look, in case they need to be repaired or replaced. It is recommended that you replace a nicked or bent guide rod or/and slide that has worn out.

Take a close look at the finish of the bow. Make sure that the bow is free of glare and camouflaged well. You can apply a matte-camo tape if the surface of your bow glares. Gauge the limbs. Hunt for splits, cracks or any other imperfections and oddities. Make the necessary replacements. Remember a limb that breaks at full draw would not only ruin your hunting expedition but may also cause injury.

The best way for you to enjoy your bow hunting experience is to check your entire archery gear for any wear and tear. Once you have replaced and repaired your bows and arrows, not only would you be able to shoot your game with perfection but also make the most of the expedition!
